 (a) Asia-Pacific Economic Association (APEA) 2009

This is the fifth annual conference of APEA, and will be hosted by the Department of Economics and Santa Cruz Center for International Economics (SCCIE), University of California at Santa Cruz on June 27-28, 2009. The conference is sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, USA and the Bank of Korea, Korea.

The conference plans to have several keynote speakers, including Andrew Rose of UC Berkeley.

Please send an extended abstract or draft of a paper or session organizing proposals to Joshua Aizenman <jaizen@cats.ucsc.edu> or Shin-ichi Fukuda <sfukuda2@e.u-tokyo.ac.jp>. (b) China Economic Policy Review

 The Research Center for International Economics at the University of International Business and Economics, Beijing, and the Department of Economics, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong, are publishing articles that review, analyze, and comment on contemporary economic policies of China. The articles have to be written for the general public and policy makers, and they need to have enough economic analysis to interest economists. Papers can be written in English and/or Chinese, but they will be published in both English and Chinese. (Authors can submit both the English version and the Chinese version of the articles, or we will do the translation.)

 The Review is scheduled to be published four times a year, with the first issue published sometime in 2009.

 Two types of articles are welcome: long articles that are based on existing research and research results of the author(s), and short articles that do not require any existing research results and could be on some current issues. Authors of long articles are encouraged to cite their own (published or working) papers and the results.

(c) International Trade Workshop, Hong Kong, February 28, 2009

The Research Center for International Economics at the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), Beijing, and the Department of Economics, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), Hong Kong, are organizing international trade workshop series. The first one was held on the campus of UIBE on November 22, 2008. The next one will be held on the campus of HKBU on February 28, 2009. Economists are invited to submit papers (related to international trade, foreign direct investment, and/or international labor migration) by January 31, 2009 to Yuk-Shing Cheng < ycheng@hkbu.edu.hk>. (d) RCIE-UIBE annual conference on “China and the World Economy”

The Research Center for International Economics at the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) is organizing a conference on “China and the World Economy: Globalization and Economic Integration”. It will be held on the campus of UIBE, Beijing on June 22-23, 2009. Theoretical/empirical papers in the following areas are most welcome (but not limited to):

·         foreign trade and foreign direct investment (especially related to China);

·         exchange rates and currencies (especially renminbi);

·         economic integration, including regionalism and multilateralism;

·         China’s foreign economic policies;

·         China’s exchange rate, monetary, and fiscal policies and their impacts;

·         trade conflicts, disputes, and issues between China and other economies;

·         WTO and China;

(e) AKES-KDI-RCIE-HKBU “Korea and the World Economy, VIII” Hong Kong, July 9-10, 2009

The Association of Korean Economic Studies, Korea Development Institute, Research Center for International Economics, and the Department of Economics, Hong Kong Baptist University are jointly organizing the eighth annual conference on “Korea and the World Economy” to be held on the campus of HKBU on July 9 – 10, 2009. The deadline for submitting a paper (or an extended abstract) for presentation consideration will be April 15, 2009.  (f) Advanced Training Program, Seattle, US, July 27 – August 14, 2009

 The Research Center for International Economics and the Department of Economics are organizing the third advanced training program on economics and business administration on July 27 – August 14, 2009 in Seattle. The first two weeks will have lectures on how to write and publish academic papers in international journals, economic situations of some Asia-Pacific economies, and visits to local business/government units. These lectures, which are suitable for both junior faculty members and graduate students, will be given by experienced scholars of various universities, including editors of some international journals.
